Boeing Company Grant Sparks Elementary STEM Program

The Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation and the Okaloosa County School District’s Career and Technical Education Department announced today that it has been awarded a $50,000 Kids’ C.O.D.E. (Creative Online Developmental Education) grant from the Boeing Company to help spark elementary-age students’ interest and knowledge in programming through hands-on manipulatives.    read more

Thank You Lowe’s of Destin

Lowe’s of Destin is investing in tomorrow’s workforce. Store Manager, Shaun Leake, and Assistant Manager Brad Strawbridge donated carpentry tools and supplies to the new program at Bruner Middle School. Mr. James Martin met with Mr. Leake and Mr. Strawbridge and explained that he would be teaching the new carpentry program, and Lowe’s immediately decided to support the program through the generous donation of tools and supplies.    read more

Cosmetology Graduate Earns State License

Congratulations to Erin Norris!  She completed her cosmetology education at Crestview High School, and she passed her state board exams.  Erin is the 1st cosmetology graduate to earn her state license.  Erin has been employed at Great Clips as a receptionist for the past two years. Now that she is a licensed cosmetologist, she plans to continue her career there, transitioning her title from receptionist to stylist.  Erin saved approximately $10,000 in tuition and fees by taking her cosmetology courses in high school.  

We wish her the best of luck and happiness in her career.

Crestview HS Emergency Medical Responder

A Crestview High School graduate from Dr. Tammy McKenzie's Emergency Medical Responder program, Makayla Shaffer, says "I just wanted to let you know that I just graduated from basic training and now I’m heading to Ft. Sam Houston for 68W school (Army Combat Medic). I can’t wait to use the knowledge you taught me in my next adventure!"

NHS DIGITAL VIDEO TECHNOLOGY

Students enrolled in the program were able to take a day and learn the practical aspects of modern film industry special effects makeup.   Local Eric Dupre owner and founder of the Underground FX lab specializes in visual effects makeup and was able to walk the students through the exciting process of making visual effects for films.          read more

Crestview High School Region 1 HOSA Results

Living the scrub life is not easy, but you would not know that by observing the Crestview High School HOSA students at the 2019 HOSA: Future Health Professionals Region 1 Spring Conference held at Pensacola State College on January 17 and 18.  Students from Escambia to Bay Counties competed in HOSA events from physical therapy to public speaking and much more.                read more

Payton Abner, a Fort Walton Beach High School senior in the Digital Video Technology program, created a very moving video for the dog rescue program at PAWS.  Payton’s video project was featured last week in the Northwest Florida Daily News with a link to the video.  read more

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs ………. Okaloosa County School District is on target with training students for great career opportunities in the construction industry. Alan Baggett with Building Industry Association, Randy Wise with Randy Wise Homes, Inc., Marion Skalicky with Ruckel Properties, Administration, and other guests were excited to tour the newly opened Construction Program at the Laurel Hill School in North Okaloosa County.          read more

Da Vinci Surgical Robot Demonstration at Crestview HS

Crestview High School students had the chance to interact and actually use the Da Vinci Surgical Robot during a presentation at the school.

Kelly Bergman, Director with the North Okaloosa Physician’s Group, was instrumental in bringing the robot to Crestview High School. Dr. Daran Mason, North Okaloosa Medical Center, who graduated from Crestview High School in 1992 and recently returned to the area, shared his skill with the robot to the students.

“It’s a great opportunity to have that cross-curriculum with health sciences and robotics!” said Daniel Sligar, Applied Cybersecurity & Applied Robotics, Crestview High School.      read more
